This workshop provided delegates with a clear and detailed overview of what it means to be a part of CLOSER Discovery, from the overall advantages of joining down to the day-to-day practicalities of adding data to the repository.
About the workshop
CLOSER Discovery is a search engine that allows researchers to explore the content of eight UK longitudinal studies. Following its launch in January 2017, CLOSER are keen to explore opportunities to expand the Discovery repository and incorporate metadata from additional longitudinal studies based within the UK.
This half day workshop provided delegates with a clear and detailed overview of what it means to be a part of Discovery, from the overall advantages of joining down to the day-to-day practicalities of adding data to the repository.
Guests heard from key members of the CLOSER partnership on the following topics:
– The advantages of joining CLOSER Discovery (Alison Park, Director & Principal Investigator, CLOSER)
– What is involved in becoming a part of CLOSER Discovery? (Will Poynter, Technical Manager, CLOSER)
– The practicalities of documenting historical metadata (Hayley Mills, Metadata Officer, CLOSER)
– Joining CLOSER Discovery: from a study’s perspective (John Payne, Associate Director of Data, ISER)
Throughout the day, delegates took part in group discussions looking at how joining CLOSER Discovery might enhance their respective study, as well as the potential barriers studies may face if joining the project and how these could be overcome.
This workshop was open to data managers and principal investigators of studies interested in joining CLOSER Discovery. It was also open to individuals interested in curation and metadata management as well as those working for organisations with metadata content.
