Latest videos – CLOSER Seminars: Whitehall II study

News |

This CLOSER Seminar introduced Whitehall II, a world-class, interdisciplinary study of ageing and looked at what it can tell us about socioeconomic inequalities, as well as the relationship between cognitive ageing and dementia.

Speakers

Dr Archana Singh-Manoux leads the cognitive ageing programme of the Whitehall II study, where data on social, behavioural and biological factors predate the collection of cognitive data by 10 years. Dr Singh-Manoux is also Research Director of INSERM, the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, where she co-leads the ‘Epidemiology of ageing and age related diseases’ research team. Using evidence from Whitehall II, the Dr Singh-Manoux’s presentation focused on cognitive ageing and dementia.

Eric Brunner is a Professor of Social and Biological Epidemiology at UCL. He is also a Principal Investigator for the Whitehall II study where he leads a programme of research titled, ‘Vascular risk and functional decline in old age’ which is supported by the British Heart Foundation. His presentation introduced the Whitehall II study, before focusing on how the study has aided our understanding of socioeconomic inequalities and how it has expanded to public health modelling.
